Food in School

We promote a healthy lifestle at school through encouraging pupils to make positive choices regarding food and exercise.

WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL – PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN PRODUCTS CONTAINING NUTS

Morning break.  Children in Foundation and in Key Stage 1 classes do not need to bring in snacks for the morning break as fruit or vegetable sticks are provided free of charge.  Key Stage 2 pupils can bring in a healthy snack for break. This should be vegetable sticks, dried fruit or fresh fruit.

We encourage all pupils to bring in a small, named bottle of water with a sports lid to avoid spillages. These bottles must only contain water.  Children will have access to their water bottle thoughout the day.

Packed lunches.  It is important that children have a healthy packed lunch to refuel them for the afternoon lessons.  We encourage children to bring in a balanced lunch including items, such as wholemeals bread sandwiches, cheese & crackers, pasta salad, vegetable sticks and fruit. Please do not send in any chocolate or chocolate covered items, sweets or fizzy drinks.  As a rule of thumb, if you could buy it on the sweet counter then it should not be sent in.

School lunches.  Our school meals are provided by Dolce, contracted by West Berkshire Council.  Learners of all ages need refuelling during the day in the classroom and Dolce makes sure there's plenty of delicious, home-cooked food ready for eating when the lunch bell rings. It's very important that we serve freshly prepared, healthy food which tastes great and is made from quality ingredients.  We encourage all children who have a school lunch, to try everything and to eat at least one of the vegetables on offer.

Menus are available on the Dolce website and children can make their meal choices in the classroom at the start of the day or online at home. If your child has special dietary requirements then please let the kitchen know.

Under the Government scheme for universal infant free school meals, children in EYFS and KS1 do not need to pay for school lunches.  However, children in KS2 will need to pay on-line or set up a direct debit with Dolce.  All information is on their site via the link above.  If you think your child qualifies for free school meals then please check eligibility and apply online here.
